In the area of where the 'Blaydon Races' used to be held on a mid-river island (no island remains). Brackish water depends on tide, can be quite polluted with sewage outflow downstream. Very pleasant rural scenery upstream, interesting industrial landscape downstream. Pylons for the afficienados! No waterways permit required.

Tidal. Launching OK for a couple of hours each side of high tide. Also affected by heavy rainfall pulses in North Pennines. Upstream lovely paddle to Wylam. Downstream to Newcastle and the North Sea, tides can be fast (care required).
